Maybe, too laid back and slow for some people's tastes. Personal faves of mine: the beautiful Love Me Like A River Does, the lilting Sweet Memory , the soulful Worrisome Heart and the charming goodnite. this lady just sings her heart out without any major bells and whistles. not an album that you are going to get ready for a night out to but.
She is more convincing than say Norah Jones at jazz for me and she is not as showy and glossy as say Michael Buble who I have to say I have sadly tired of. I loved that album so much that I had to buy this one too, this is her debut. And it is a confident and convincing jazz debut I must say. It's so soulful and sincere. She never goes for big band style numbers. really effective. The album is full of laid back tracks that you can just lay back and relax too. yet for me, her arrangements are simple yet beautiful.
Melody has a really soulful voice and it is clear this style of music is perfect for her. just because it lacks up-tempo numbers doesn't mean it is really lacking at all. it's not about over-complex arrangements, it's about her selling the lyrics to you. I'm not a major jazz fan but this girl has captured my attention.
can't get into his new album much at all. she sings it like she means it. This is why I kinda lost interest in Buble. an album for a quiet night in or contemplative moods.
I discovered Melody earlier this year with her track "Baby I'm a fool" from her 2nd album "My One And Only Thrill". she evokes a smoky jazz club feel on this album and her 2nd one too. it's all a little too showy now.
Get a good red wine, a fresh loaf of bread and a Melody Gardot album. A must have. Absolutely wonderful. Beautiful effortless singing.
Consistently good,laid-back,melodious,sophisticated - Melody Gardot can't easily be put in any particular category. There is something there for lovers of jazz & blues or whatever you like to call it.
Saw her on David Letterman, and had to hear more. Same review for this one as for My One and Only Thrill. Would recomend this one as well
That song will knock you out. It's smoky, delicate, pitch perfect, wobbly and beautiful. There are 5 songs on this CD that stand up to anything I've ever ever heard. As one reviewer put it "It's the sexy song I've ever heard" - ditto.Buy this CD. What she finds is a voice that sounds like she is literally singing 6" from your ear and singing directly to you. You might end up tucking it under your pillow at night or spooning it. They are "Gone", "Sweet Memory", "Some Lessons", "One Day" and the oh-my-gosh I can't believe how incredible this song is "Love Me Like A River Does".
Do not download it. First of all, what an interesting story - a girl gets hit by a car, develops a sensitivity to light and sound, and finds music therapy as a way to deal with her injuries. Her voice is very fresh and different from what you hear on radio. Period.
